The Actors laboratory - April Sessions!

We're back! After an incredible response to our first Actors Laboratory session with Cameron Rhodes we are now launching three drop in classes to be held in April. And in keeping with the turn of the season it's all about the elements...

Sylvia Rands "The Elemental Voice" April 5th, 5pm-7pm
Sylvia is one of New Zealand’s most experienced voice and acting teachers as well as being an acclaimed actress. She was Head of Voice at Toi Whakaari from 2005 -2008 after returning from Australia where she was Head of Voice at the Actor’s Centre Sydney and at VCA in Melbourne. Sylvia will take a session outlining the basics of her vocal technique. This class is a great opportunity to discover Sylvia's unique work and will also be a great vocal workout. It is targeted toward those who are interested in exploring the deeper aspects of body and voice.

Willem Wassenaar "Elements Workshop" April 7th, 7pm-10pm
Willem is an award winning director originally from the Netherlands. His work includes Wolf's Lair, Blood Wedding, The Little Dog Laughed and the up coming Romeo and Juliet for Auckland Theatre Company. The elements is a highly useful tool for actors, it's easily applied and understood. This class will be a great burst of inspiration for those looking for a shake up. Willem's class will run from 7-10, due to the extra hour we will be charging $18 non equity $15 equity.

Jacque Drew "American Accent Masterclass" April 12th, 5pm- 7pm
Jacque is an award-winning actor, teacher and director recognized in the U.S. and New Zealand for her work. She has worked as an accent coach in many capacities including for Silo Theatre, Auckland Theatre Company and on Feature films including Bridge to Terebithia and The Ferryman. Jacque will review the basics and concentrate on the chronic issues that Kiwis have moving their mouths form New Zild to American. She'll cover the importance of understanding cultural context and how to audition for American work (differing standards, styles, etc.) on stage and screen.

All classes are targeted to experienced actors so please only apply if you have had professional experience on stage or screen.
Feel free to contact us for any further information on the classes.

We look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Who we are

At the Performing Arts Forum in Auckland City last year i rose a question of wanting to find a way to keep actors active and inspired in their craft when not in work. Sam Snedden bought a question of wanting to know how we can learn more from more experienced practitioners or mentors.

We decided that a great way to do this was by having regular classes - like going to the gym, where you can be challenged, kept on your toes and in the loop, as well as learning from some of our highly skilled and experienced practitioners.

So this is us. We look forward to working with you soon.

Rachel
